On this weeks episode of Glee we learned that everyone in New Directions was in a funk. Will was in a funk about his divorce. Rachel was in a funk over her breakup with Jesse. Quinn was in a funk because she is pregnant and is tired of people calling her fat. You get the idea. Everyone was in a funk. So Will gave them all assignments to perform a funk song to get them out of their own funks.
Vocal Adrenaline attempts to psych out New Directions with their performance of “Another One Bites the Dust” and by TP’ing their choir room. Will tells the students they shouldn’t allow Vocal Adrenaline to put them in a funk and tells them they should retaliate. Puck and Finn took that at little too literally and retaliated by slashing the tires of all of Vocal Adrenaline cars. For punishment they are made to get jobs and pay back the damages, which means they now work with Terri. You remember her, the crazy (now) ex-wife who faked a pregnancy and hid it from Will? Terri offers to help Finn with his funk performance and tells him that he can be her second chance. Hmmm…think she’s trying to get back on Will’s good side?
Rachel is still heartbroken over Jesse and after their surprise performance and TP’ing she says she wants him to be eaten by a lion. Ouch! She thinks that he broke her heart on purpose just so that she would be thrown off before regionals.
This brings us to Will’s decision to put Sue in a funk of her own. He gave her a private and very seductive performance of “Tell Me Something Good” that I thought was pretty hilarious. Will told Sue that he wanted to take her out on a date. A date that he didn’t show up for. That, of course, lead the way for one of the most memorable moments of the night: the almost Sue/Shue kiss. Sue showed up at Will’s house with her humongous trophy and gave him two options: store the trophy in his Glee Club room or kiss her. Right before the action happened though, Sue blew him off saying even his breath stunk of mediocrity. Gotta love the constant battle between those two.
Quinn gave her own funky solo of “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” with the “Unwed Mothers Connection.” I thought the song was a good one and thought she sang it well but the dancing of the obviously not pregnant girls was a little hard to watch. I know when I was that far into my pregnancies I wasn’t moving quite that well.
Puck, Finn and Mercedes had a really fun performance of “Good Vibrations” that Will initially didn’t like because it wasn’t technically funk just because it was originally by Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch. Does anyone else still have a hard time picturing Mark Wahlberg doing this back in the day?
In a very touching scene, Mercedes offers to Quinn to move out of Puck’s house and in with her. Quinn accepts the offer and Mercedes says, “Us sisters got to stick together.”
Rachel receives a phone call from Jesse and he asks her to meet him in the parking lot. Rachel obviously thinks that Jesse wants to make-up and she rushes out to meet him, only to be egged by the entire Vocal Adrenaline team. Jesse says, “I loved you” and smashes his own egg right on her forehead.
Of course, Puck and Finn want revenge but Will stops them and tells them to get Vocal Adrenaline into the auditorium on Friday. When they show up on Friday, New Directions performs “Give Up the Funk” and afterwards Jesse says, “They did a funk number. We’ve never been able to pull off a funk number. I’m so depressed.”
I enjoyed this episode much more than last week’s and am excited to see what happens next week. I can’t believe the finale is already here!
