Book Review: Wired by Robin Wasserman
She had a new body: Mechanical, unfeeling, inhuman. She had a new family: Mechs like her, who didn’t judge her for what she could no longer be. She had a new life, one that would last forever.
At least it was supposed to.
I have been waiting for months for this book to come out. I had to know how this wonderful series would end. I was not disappointed. This is one of the best final-book-in-a-series I have ever read. I thought that I knew where it was going but Wasserman still managed to throw in a couple of unexpected twists. Over the course of three books, I was really rooting for Lia and her friends.
The trilogy starts out with Lia finding out that she has been in a car accident which left her body unsalvageable. Instead, her brain has been downloaded into a new mech (mechanical) body. The books are set in a futuristic world where the world runs on credit and everyone is plugged into the network. Humanity has already tried to destroy itself with nuclear and bio warfare. Essentially, the series is about the journey of a girl figuring out who she really was before the accident and who she is now. But there are also bigger questions to be answered about humanity and the soul.
In Wired, Lia is a stronger person who seems to know what she wants. And, she is ready to make it happen. Wasserman has proved herself to be a master at character development and the genre of science fiction. The plot is continuous and the world and characters she has created are believable. We can only hope that it is not a glimpse at our actual future. I am truly sad that this series has found it ending but I look forward to what she will come up with next.
