Author: Gordon Korman
Synopsis: (from the back of the book)
The Titanic is meant to be unsinkable, but as it begins its maiden voyage, there’s plenty of danger waiting for four of its young passengers. Paddy is a stowaway, escaping a deadly past. Sophie’s mother is delivered to the ship by police – after she and Sophie have been arrested. Juliana’s father is an eccentric whose riches can barely hide his madness. And Alfie is hiding a secret that could get him kicked off the ship immediately.
The lives of these four passengers will be forever linked with the fate of the Titanic. And the farther they get from shore, the more danger looms.
Review: When I taught 4th grade we did a whole unit on the Titanic. It was a favorite unit for both the students and for me! So when I saw this book arrive in my mailbox this week, I was super excited to see it!
The think that I like most about this is it is told from young people’s perspective. Most of the Titanic books you find are about adults on the Titanic. But this one I can see kids being able to relate to!
This is the first book in a trilogy. This first book takes you through how these people get on the ship and the ship launching. The second, Titanic- Book Two, Collision Course, carries you part way through the voyage. The last one, Titanic- Book Three, S.O.S, deals with the sinking of the Titanic.
I really like how the author weaves this tale using true facts. The story is easy to read but not simple. The story is interesting and engaging. I would love to read this story to my students! I think they would love it.
