Chapter 49: It doesn’t surprise me that Sierra is being a really good friend to Brittany. She seems to have her best interest in mind. It doesn’t surprise me at all that Brittany’s mom didn’t call her. Her perfect image is shattered and that’s all she really cares about.
Chapter 50: I think the Blood killed his dad for something. Specifically, I think Hector did it.
Chapter 51:I sure hope she doesn’t get burned. The possibility is definitely there though.
Chapter 52: I think Alex will end up leaving the Blood, hopefully in one piece. This chapter was a pivotal chapter in the book.
Chapter 53 I am glad that Brittany’s mom is thawing a bit. I think that Brittany and Alex do have a chance at happiness now.
Chapter 54: A happy ending really depends on where Alex got shot. Isabel will not get her happy ending though. Alex will never be the same, and neither will Brittany. I hope it all works out in the end.
Chapter 55: He’s trying to protect her from the consequences of his actions. He’s going to face a lot of tough stuff because he became an informant.
Chapter 56: I think he will survive it, but it won’t be enough to get Brittany back. He’ll have to do more than that for her.
Chapter 57: I don’t think all hope is lost. They both obviously still have feelings for the other. They just both need to forgive the other to have their happy ending.

Chapter 49: I think Sierra and Brittany really are trying hard to connect and stay friends. Brittany’s mom is a biotch. She needs to get a grip.
Chapter 50: I think there is something really fishy about what happened. Someone is going to have to fess up soon.
Chapter 51: They BOTH are playing with fire… that is really the premise of this whole book as well as the whole Romeo and Juliet story.
Chapter 52: At this point in the book I really wasn’t sure what was going to happen. I was turning the pages as fast as I could!
Chapter 53 I am not sure what the future holds for Brittany and her mom. I think that at the same time, Brittany needs to also stop blaming herself for her sister’s welfare.
Chapter 54: WOW. This was a real shocker. I was really sad to find out Paco died. I was really bummed. But somewhat glad that it wasn’t Alex. (Although that would have been really brave of Simone for choosing that direction for the story.) It was interesting to finally find out the whole background behind Hector and Alex’s dad.
Chapter 55: He is trying to save her and separate her from any involvement with the Bloods so she stays safe. He knows Hector is still alive and wants to protect her. This action definitely makes that a sure thing.
Chapter 56: This is the only part of the story that I didn’t like. From what I understand (and maybe I am wrong) once you’re in a gang you’re in and there is no way out but death. I like the way it ended, but I wonder if it sends the wrong message to teens – it’s OK to get involved in a gang cuz you can always just let them beat you up and you will walk away scott free. I get why Simone chose this but it just didn’t feel right. It was almost too easy. And maybe I am just reading too much into it.
Chapter 57: I am glad he got away from the gang and is able to live out his “dream” of going to school and is really able to live up to his potential. As for Brittany and Alex, I think they are both strong enough to get though this and have a happily ever after. I would love to find out what happens to them and how their families feel about them being together.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I should have listened to Maryanne and everyone else who went on and on about this book for so long. I am so glad I picked it up. It was a great read without it being all “OMG, He asked me to the dance!” teen crap. It was real and it was intense. Simone is an amazing writer!

Sierra being a good friend did surprise me. Her mom not calling- not so much.

Chapter 50: Without Brittany around, Alex has more time to reflect on the night his dad died. What are your theories about that night?

I think he wanted out and the gang didn’t want to let him out and set him up that night.

Chapter 51: Brittany is playing with fire. Will she get burned?
I think she will but I hope not.

Chapter 52: So much going on in this chapter – first hot, then sad, then desperate. What’s next? Do you think Alex will leave the Blood?
I hope Alex will try and leave the Blood.

Chapter 53 Brittany’s mom, the Ice Queen, is thawing a bit. Do you think Brittany and Alex have a chance at happiness together?
    YES!!!!

Chapter 54: Paco’s gone. Alex’s been shot. Is there any hope for a happy ending?
I hope so but right now it feels pretty bleak!

Chapter 55: Brittany rushes to Alex when she finds out he’s in the hospital. He is cold-hearted and rude to her, telling her that he only slept with her to win a bet. Why?
He’s pushing her away to keep her safe from the life he is leading.

Chapter 56: Alex is taking the step of leaving the Latino Blood. Will he survive it? Do you think that will be enough to get Brittany back?
Maybe. He is so strong to go through this.

Chapter 57: It’s been five months since Alex and Brittany have seen each other. Is all hope lost? Does a story have to have a “happy ending”?
Sometimes it should have a happy ending. Alex and Brittany deserve it!
