Eve’s Fan Garden

A Brave, New World

Eve.

Mother of All Living.

Pioneer of Human Creation.

The First Mom.

Since the dawn of this earth, women have pulled mankind into other worlds. It all began with Eve in the Garden of Eden when she took one bite from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, which then plunged her and Adam into a world filled with adventure and the mundane, light and darkness, birth and death, passion and pain, love and hate.  Was Eve’s act of partaking the fruit a sin? Should we condemn her? Should we thank her? Or should we think of it as, the way Tori Amos so musically coins it, “original sinsuality”? Nehama Aschkenasy, author of Eve’s Journey: Feminine Images in Hebraic Literary Tradition researched the word “beguiled” and found that its original meaning is a far cry from its negative modern connotation. We’ve been taught its definition to mean that “the serpent” or Satan conned Eve into partaking of the fruit and that she blindly gave in to sin. This is a false interpretation. The word “beguile” derived from a rare Hebrew verb form that “indicates an intense multilevel experience which evokes great emotional, psychological, and/or spiritual trauma” or disruption. This whole “experience caused Eve to step back, reevaluate, reassess and ponder…” (Beverly Campbell, Eve and the Choice Made in Eden, pg. 71)

Perhaps similar to what we modern women do in book clubs?

Origins

The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer gave rise to a powerful new force - the female fan, and not just the young, but the mature as well, known to the world now as “Twilight Moms”. Our online home, TwilightMOMS.com, has become our sanctuary where we no longer feel the need to hide our inner fangirl passion for any kind of books or movies. What may have once been thought of as a guilty pleasure is now celebrated openly amongst women of all ages. Tens upon thousands of wives, singles, mothers, and grandmothers have experienced a new awakening after reading Stephenie’s words. Her courage to develop her talents and share them with the world has inspired us to explore our own and beget many more wondrous, new creations. What society used to call the ”average housewife” is no longer “average” at all. She can now change Hollywood… and has.

A new world, indeed.
