This book affected me so deeply. It truly is unlike anything out there right now. It has ruined all other books for me that I've tried reading after it (best sellers even! I couldn't resist any longer and am reading it again). Alma's writing is just so prosaic and beautiful. And the characters and situations so deliciously complex. I found it impossible to get this book out of my head, rehashing scenes and analyzing every aspect over and over, which made me very unproductive for at least the following week! The story was so very dark and tragic yet I was left with a feeling of hope and great anticipation after finishing. I can hardly stand the wait for The Reckoning (and at this point it really isn't that long of a wait -June, yet it is killing me!) This series should be at the top of every best seller list! (Shame on NYT, PW, etc!) Alma's writing is impeccable and her characters are compelling. Her ability to tell such a story in such a manner is just astounding. Excellent review!!!
