I can’t believe that we are celebrating our 2nd anniversary! Of course, we all “knew” each other before when we ran the book club on TwilightMoms but these ladies have grown to become some of my best friends. I get to read great books, talk to authors, and hang out with the cool kids on Eve’s.  I can’t wait to see what the next year brings for us!

1. I heard that you like to sing, and that you specifically like to sing disney princess songs… f you could be any disney princess, who would it be and why. Belle from Beauty and the Beast. For awhile it was Ariel but then B & B came out and I fell in love with that movie. And yes, I would frequently walk down the hall at my school singing the opening song. I was big into musical theater as a kid so it as always been my dream to be the singing voice of a Disney character (Georgia didn’t believe me at first, so I may have to do a video just for her!).

She even likes books!

2. Who is your favorite bad ass female character in literature? I suppose she doesn’t have to be bad ass… I think I have two. As far as truly bad ass, I would say Isabelle from The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare. She is hot and looks good wielding a knife! Ha, ha!! However, I think that Puck (Kate Connelly) from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater is bad ass in a subtle way. She may be small, but she is strong and brave and that to me, is bad ass.

3. What is your favorite kind of cupcake? I am a vanilla person so I would say vanilla cupcake with pink frosting. Although I found a recipe for cupcakes that look like gumball machines that I might try for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. Yum!

4. If you suddenly woke up one morning with a super power, what would you like that power to be? The ability to stop time! My problem is that I take on way too much and often have to say no or sacrifice what I want to do with what I have to do. I want to read, work on my book,  play with my kids, ride my horse,chat with friends, get ahead on my lesson plans, work my 9+ hours a day – I think you get the picture!  If I could just stop time and add a couple of hours to my day, the things I could do . . .

5. What author would you love to sit down to dinner with? The answer to this one keeps on changing. I have already had the pleasure of sitting down and having dinner with two of my favorite authors, Lisa McMann and Robin Wasserman, so that changes things. I have always said Stephenie Meyer. I have a lot I want to say to her including thank you for changing my life so much. I am also going to add JK Rowling to this list because I want to thank her for bringing reading back to the world! Not only that, but both of these women were moms who had to write when their schedules allowed. They didn’t always have the luxury of being able to go to “work” to write. As an unpublished writer myself, I want to know how they did it!

6. What do you think is the best book of 2011? I can’t pick just one so I have three! Delirium by Lauren Oliver because it is a beautiful book about love, Where She Went by Gayle Forman because it is a beautiful book about love after loss, and The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater because it is a beautiful book about love and horses (and I am totally obsessed with horses!)!!

Five Lasts (Five is sort of my lucky number, you know.)

• Last time I cried happy tears: I’m crying happy tears pretty regularly these days. I mean, baby A5 is just about to be born, and there were so many ups and downs during his rather lengthy gestation period… I just want all the best for him! Like any mama would! So…right now is the last time I cried happy tears. Ha.
• Last time I rode a roller coaster: HARRY POTTER WORLD! The husband and I went to Harry Potter World a few months ago and went crazy: butterbeer, rides, trying out wands. It was amazing.
• Last time I splurged on something for myself: Yikes. I do this pretty regularly. Last night I bought myself a cupcake on the way home. I firmly believe in treating myself for small victories.
• Last time I learned something new: This is the awesome thing about being a writer: you learn so much researching your books! Last night I learned the difference between automatic and semi-automatic weapons (Automatic weapons fire continuously until you release the trigger, semi-automatic weapons fire one shot per pull of the trigger. Just FYI. J )
• Last time I said I love you: 5 minutes ago when I got off the phone with my husband!

After I read Article 5 (and loved it!)  I was extra excited to find out that author Kristen Simmons lives in the next county from me. Then, one day, I got this lovely invitation in the mail

This was the first launch party I’ve attended. It was a lot of fun. Kristen split the evening into 5 segments. (5 has become her lucky number). She was super nervous, so she broke the tension by doing 5 raffles of goody bags of items related to Article 5.  Her mom was there, as were her inlaws. The bookstore itself is a small (and I mean small) local bookstore. There were probably upwards of 50 people packed into a tiny space. But, the smile never left Kristen’s face. It was a ton of fun and I am so happy I got to go. Best of all, the reading she did from Article 5, intrigued my daughter, and they want to read it now, too. (They’re teenagers, they usually don’t like what Mom likes. LOL)

1. When you are not being a fabulous blogger, what do you do with your life? Well, let’s see. I run a small business with my husband, work part time for a physical rehab agency, take care of my family (i.e. wash dishes, do laundry, clean house, play chauffeur…you know, all the glamorous stuff), watch t.v., dabble in photography, read, read, and, oh yeah, read.

2. If you could visit the setting of any book, where would you go? This one is easy. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I would love to enjoy a feast in the Great Hall with candles dancing over my head, take in a Quidditch match, visit Hagrid’s hut and hang out in the Gryffindor common room. Sadly, the closest I’ll ever get is visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (which I’ll be doing next summer) but its still fun to dream.

3. If you could have dinner with the author of your choice, who would it be? Jane Austen. I would love to know what she thinks about the popularity of her books two hundred years after she wrote them. Also, I want to know what she thinks of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy

4. If you were being sent into outer space and could only bring three books with you, what would they be? This is akin to asking one to pick their favorite child. Fortunately I have only one child which makes that choice easy. I guess I would choose Pride and Prejudice, The Hunger Games, and HP and the Deathly Hallows. (This was harder than I thought it would be. I changed my answer three times)

5. What is your best book-related memory? Sitting in front of the Christmas tree drinking a cup of hot cocoa with my mom and sister while Mom read A Christmas Carol to us. Its one of my favorite childhood memories.

Bonus question – what was your favorite book of 2011? This year its a tie between Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare and Where She Went by Gayle Forman. I love them both for such different reasons that I just can’t choose between them.

1. What’s the first book you remember reading as a child and why did it leave an impression on you?

Pickle Chiffon Pie by Jolly Roger Bradfield.  GREAT story with a great message, and I liked the illustrations a lot too

2. What book, if any, changed the way you thought about the world?

Matched by Ally Condie.  Its a long drawn out story, and I don’t know if I can accurately say it changed the way I think about the world or not…  but it changed the way I live IN the world.  So I figure it counts.  Basically, the short short short version of the story is, the day I finished reading it I got a phone call that my grandfather had passed away the night before.  Which, if you have read Matched you might see why that had more of an impact than even just the fact that someone I loved had died.  I have since taken the little bit of Dylan Thomas’s poem that plays such a huge part in the book and adapted it into my way of living.  ”Do not go gentle…”

3. If you could have dinner with any famous person, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Well..  Shoot.  I don’t really know.  I have already had dinner with some pretty cool famous people though…  I had dinner with Stephenie Meyer once a few years ago…  can that count?  I honestly don’t pay a lot of attention to celebrities most of the time…

4. What’s your favorite quote?

‘Do not go gentle’ has become somewhat of a mantra for me…  I am going to get it tattooed on the inside of my wrist.

5. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 5 books would you want with you?

Can “book” be a series?  What about…  can I have my ipad with me and just use that with LOTS of books on it?  Probably not because of electricity and stuff huh…

Well, if I have to follow the rules and choose 5…

• Graceling Kristin Kashore
• Poison Study series by Maria V. Snyder
• Something new…  something amazing that I have not read yet… open to suggestions.

My favorite book of 2011 was Where She Went by Gayle Forman.  Everything about it was perfection.  It was everything I want in a book.
